Miss Brook Becomes Princess For The Night

For Brook's birthday, Steve surprised her with tickets to Disney Princesses on Ice. She was so excited and loved every minute of the night. Before Brook left for the night, she got the royal treatment: hair, nails and make-up. She chose to dress up as Tinker-bell... (yes, Brook says Tinkerbell is definately a princess) Brook and her dad had a great time! Thanks Daddy!!!

The Big Storm

February has been full of excitement for our family. I would never have thought that Valentines Day would be the most important holiday for my daughter Brook, but she is all about hearts, parties, candy and valentines cards. We started counting down to Valentines Day right after we celebrated the new year.

In Brook's mind tragic struck the night before Valentine's day. A huge blizzard hit Saratoga Springs Wednesday afternoon. We had already dropped Brook off at her dance class when the storm began. The power kept on going off, so I decided to quickly get the other two kids in the car and go get Brook before the storm worsened. At 4:00 I ran out the door with Braden and Brinley in my arms, not even taking the time to put their shoes and socks on... and of course no coats. It didn't take us long to realize we were in trouble and not at all prepared.

We started down the road, not knowing what was infront of us. I asked Braden to say a prayer... "Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the food...." was his reply. We safetly made it to Brooks dance class, which was a mile from our home. Getting back home was a nightmare! Accidents were happening all around us. They quickly closed down each and every road to get to my home. I was now stuck 1 mile away from my home with my three kids and another little girl from dance. 2 of the kids had dance leotards on and the other 2 were barefoot... and everyone had to go to the bathroom!

We spent the first two hours in Artic Circle and then the next 4 hours in the van waiting for traffic to start moving. In the meantime, all Brook could talk about was getting home so she could go to bed because she needed her beauty sleep for her Valentine's party they would be having the next day at school. I truely thought I was going to go insane. Kids were crying, sick, hungry... and still needed to go to the bathroom. I could not stop saying prayers for help.
Luckily, Steve had parked his car at a grocery store and had started running down the street to my van. Someone finally gave him a lift and we were safe with dad. Finally at 11:00 at night we pulled into our driveway.
After the night was over and we were safe and warm in our beds, I just could not stop thinking of how important it is to be prepared... you just never know what type of situation you will be in.
